South Africa is known for many things including its crime. And although we should focus on the good like the beautiful city and its beautiful people. One cannot deny the overwhelming violence on Women. The abuse on Women has come to the forefront in the news lately such as Anene Booysen and Reeva Steenkamp. The facts will never be known with possible liars. But it does not overshadow the fact that South Africa has a REAL CRISIS on their hands.
What can be done?
If you know of someone who is constantly being abused, make some effort in a way that you know you can help. What's the point of being horrified when someone is dead when you had the knowledge all along.
If you see a women being beaten in the street, Do not look and look and look. Phone the police, if you are alone at least track the perpetrator's whereabouts and then alert someone OR punch them.
When there are protests, attend.
Do not allow men to degrade, undermine you even if it is a friend. This gives leeway to something much bigger.
And I know that there are many reasons why one wouldn't want to get involved. But what about your Daughter, or Niece or YOU???
Your mother finding your mutilated body in drawers or at a construction site?
Being in a constantly abusive relationship is a death in itself. Little digs at your appearance or insecurities, Mind Games, Gold Digger... You know the signs.
