Valentines Day
Valentines Day has always got me a little confused. The reason for this is that it can go terribly wrong or perfectly right. In primary school, Valentines day is adorable with little children all dressed up in their red and white gear with Be Mine sweets in tow. In high school, things start to become a little messy and a little dramatic. God forbid you have a boyfriend at school and he did not get you anything. Your empty hands is the joke for the day. And yet if your guy goes overboard, you are extremely embarrassed because you have to walk from class to class with a huge teddy bear that is bigger than you. I kept myself quite low- key in high school on Valentines Day. On the one hand I should love Valentines Day for I love all things romantic. On the other hand, I would not want to be that red- faced girl with teddy bear baggage. However, when you are married things tend to be a lot simpler. My Husband gave my present a week before. He took me to the movie a day before. This all seemed more special to me. Because it made me realise he had been thinking about the present way before and had made arrangements to see it be done. When we went to the movies last night, he already had the tickets. It made me realise that although this was in the name of Valentine's Day, he loved me everyday in such a way.
I think that Valentines Day is necessary and should be taken seriously by couples. Not to be taken as a random day that you may feel like its Christmas because of all the gifts you expect and receive. But to celebrate Love. To celebrate the difficulty of being responsible for someone else's heart, for the fights that make you grow and learn. For the special moments you relive in your mind. For that Husband who proves Love is possible and it does not always have to hurt. For the smiles, For the laughter and shared jokes, For the patience on bad and moody days. For holding hands on the beach, at the mall. Most importantly, extend the mood of love everyday in your life.
Happy Valentines Day!
